University of Wisconsin-Madison's Badger Skydiving Club
Two ways to jump!
Our affiliated dropzone, Seven Hills Skydivers of Madison, Wisconsin, does NOT require you to do a tandem on your first jump, like many dropzones do! Many people choose to go solo the first time, using the IAD training method offered at Seven Hills. You get to choose the way you do your first jump!
IAD
Instructor Assisted Deployment is a training method that opens your parachute for you almost immediately upon leaving the aircraft. You are never attached to the plane and the deployment sequence is identical to the way experienced skydivers open their own parachutes. This thrilling, solo, 'do it by yourself' method is also a way to start training to become a licensed skydiver. Classes are held most Saturdays (or Sunday by special reservation), April through October. Training starts in the morning and then if weather permits, you jump in the afternoon (from 3500 feet!) You are in radio contact the whole time, which assists you in landing your parachute safely. An 8x10 color photo of your exit is available for purchase. Members get a $5 discount on the photo. Reservations required.
Tandem
Tandem classes are by appointment only, and run all year long. The tandem class is about a half hour and then you will jump after that, weather permitting. Jump from 10,000 feet attached to your instructor with a parachute built for two! Go along for the ride of your life! Tandem skydiving has made it easy to enjoy the exciting sport of skydiving and you will be harnessed to the front of a fully licensed tandem instructor. Your instructor is in charge every step of the way, from aircraft exit, to freefall, (for about 30 seconds at 120 MPH!), to a comfortable, accurate landing (about 5-7 minutes). For more fun, have one of our aerial photographers video of your entire jump. Appointment necessary.
